Affiliate Disclosure
Last updated: April 2026 | Applies to: wildernz.com
WilderNZ is a reader-supported website. When you click certain links on this site and make a purchase or booking, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. This is called affiliate marketing, and this page explains exactly how it works on WilderNZ.
What this means in plain language
Some links on WilderNZ — particularly links to gear products, accommodation, and tours — are affiliate links. This means:
- If you click one of these links and make a purchase or booking, we receive a small commission from the retailer or service provider
- You pay exactly the same price you would have paid going directly to the site — affiliate commissions are paid by the retailer, not added to your price
- We only recommend products and services we genuinely believe are right for NZ trampers and travellers — our editorial recommendations are not for sale
Our affiliate partners
WilderNZ currently participates in or is applying to the following affiliate programs:
- Amazon Associates (Australia) — we earn from qualifying purchases on Amazon.com.au
- Macpac — via the AvantLink affiliate network
- Haka Tours — via the Commission Factory affiliate network
- Booking.com — via the Awin affiliate network
- GetYourGuide — via the Awin affiliate network
- Jucy — via Commission Factory
- World Nomads — via CJ Affiliate
This list may be updated as we join additional programs. The presence of an affiliate relationship does not affect the honesty of our reviews or recommendations.
Our editorial standards
WilderNZ’s content is written in the Wild Kiwi voice — honest, direct, and grounded in real knowledge of New Zealand’s terrain. We follow these principles:
- We only recommend products we believe are genuinely good for NZ conditions
- We include honest assessments of limitations and trade-offs — not just positives
- We do not accept payment for positive reviews or editorial placement
- Affiliate relationships do not change our editorial recommendations — if a product is not right for NZ trampers, we say so regardless of whether we have an affiliate relationship with the brand
- Where we have tested products personally, we say so. Where we are recommending based on research and community knowledge, we say that too.
Legal basis for this disclosure
This disclosure is made in compliance with:
- The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Endorsement Guides — which require clear disclosure of material connections between publishers and the brands they promote
- The New Zealand Fair Trading Act 1986 — which prohibits misleading and deceptive conduct in trade
- The terms and conditions of each affiliate network we participate in, all of which require transparent disclosure to users
- The New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 — see our Privacy Policy for information on how affiliate tracking cookies work
How to identify affiliate links
Affiliate links on WilderNZ typically appear as:
- Buttons or links within gear review boxes (e.g. “View at Macpac →” or “Check price on Amazon →”)
- In-text links to specific products within articles
- Links in our gear comparison tables
All articles that contain affiliate links carry the following notice at the top of the page or within the content: “Some links in this article are affiliate links. We earn a small commission if you purchase through them, at no extra cost to you.”
Amazon specific disclosure
WilderNZ is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program (Australia), an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.au. As an Amazon Associate, WilderNZ earns from qualifying purchases.
